About Periodontal Treatments
Gum (periodontal) disease is a swelling of the gum tissue that can bring about serious consequences, like tooth loss of infection if it isn't identified and correctly treated. The three levels of periodontal disease are gingivitis (stage one), periodontitis (stage two), and advanced periodontitis (stage three). During every patient's annual dental exams at DentalWorks - Belden Plaza in Canton, OH, our dentists will look for periodontal disease, but typical signs include swollen, red gums; bleeding while flossing and brushing; receded or separated gums; and chronic halitosis. Based on the stage of periodontal disease when it is identified, our dentists at DentalWorks - Belden Plaza provides surgical and nonsurgical treatment methods: antibiotics, scaling and root planing, gum surgery, gum tissue grafting, and tooth extraction.
"I came in to get my broken tooth fixed. When they did xrays they found where I need some work done and they were VERY pleasant about it.They are all friendly and made you feel welcome!"- T.M. / Yelp / May 26, 2017
"I just came home from my appointment. My whole family of 5 has been going to DentalWorks since 2007. They've seen my kids (2 of whom are adults now and still going there) through cavities and braces. They are always fast, efficient, and gentle on your teeth. We've also seen them while with different insurance companies, so they must be on most plans."- H.M. / Yelp / May 08, 2017
"They want and will help you bent over backwards to help me and my wife didn't feel like a dentist office"- L.W. / Facebook / Apr 26, 2017
"They deserve ten stars. Took my elderly blind neighbor to Bright Now dental and waited over an hour and a half past our appt time. Was so angry we walked out and didn't know what to do so we found Dental Works in the same mall. We had no appt but they fit us right in. They were wonderful. Had to have 12 teeth pulled and now onto dentures. All the women that work there are very friendly and caring. Dr Chi was great and very gentle on a poor lady who was scared to death. Would highly recommend them and their price was the best too!!!!!"- D.P. / Yelp / Mar 29, 2017
"First time at this Dentist office. The Staff very helpful and polite. Tiffany at the front desk was very helpful. Dental Hygienist was very good and thorough and the Dentist was very nice too. I was in and out in just one hour. I would recommend this dental office."- T.J. / Yelp / May 19, 2016
What to Expect
Gum disease can vary from mild to severe and our dentists will select the best treatment considering the patient's stage. One of the easiest and most common periodontal treatments performed is scaling and root planing (SRP), a noninvasive deep cleaning of the plaque and tartar under the gum pockets. Our dentists may add a round of antibiotics with the SRP service to minimize inflammation if the gum disease is farther along. For the final level of gum disease, our dentists will generally perform an invasive treatment: laser gum surgery, regenerative procedures, and pocket reduction.
Due to the chronic nature of gum disease, patients typically require maintenance care which includes at home therapy and more frequent visits to the dentist. The most cutting edge at home therapy is a tray delivery system known as PerioProtect. This tray is custom fitted to you and made to deliver medication. This helps keep the infection at bay in the comfort of your own home. Click here for more information on PerioProtect.
Once the gums are healthy again from the patient's gum disease procedure, it's important that the patient maintain a good dental care regime at home to avoid a return of gum disease. Patients should ask our dentists about an at home regime, including correct flossing, brushing, and any other products our dentists suggest. Patients also need to visit DentalWorks - Belden Plaza at least two times each year for a dental cleaning and at least one time a year for a dental examination with our dentists.
Typically, dental insurance policies will pay for periodontal procedures for gum disease, however the amount of coverage can change based on the individual policy. At the initial consultation, our dentists can talk about personal expenses, payment options, and current financing plans.
